BLUE WATER SAILING MAGAZINE
The SeaPC luna has a write up in the "New and Noteworthy" section of Blue
Water Sailing magazine in the August 2006 issue.
SeaPC of
Sweden has developed a new flat-screen portable computer that could make
the rest of your onboard navigation and entertainment devices almost
redundant. Called the SeaPC luna, these 15-inch computers are waterproof
so they can be mounted in the cockpit or under the dodger.
Based
on the Windows XP Pro operating system and designed to interface with
NMEA 0183/2000 devices such as GPS, the luna comes loaded with SeaPC
Navigator (Transas) plus a DVD and MP3 player. Using touch-screen protocols,
you can upload electronic charts, radar data, sailing instrument data and
play a movie all at the same time.
The PC has a one GHz CPU, 512 MB
of RAM and 40 to 80 GB in the hard drive. The self-contained unit weighs
11 pounds and draws 2.5 amps at 12 volts.
Portable, you can mount
it on deck while sailing and then move it below for the evening. Or you
can take it home with you at the end of your cruise.
